I found this video on YouTube (It only goes for 2:26 mins) and it tells of brewing for 10 mins for health benifits.
Watch it and tell me what you think!
Is it really a good thing to steep for 10 mins to get the best health benifits?

Well, I wouldn't try to dispute 10 minutes gets the most health benefits out of the tea, but I don't know how much of it I could drink.
I would think there's more health benefits in drinking as much tea as you want brewed in the way you prefer than trying to drink a cup of terrible tasting tea brewed for 10 mins. |

| i brew my tea for 1 minute on the first infusion and i don't plan on ever brewing my tea for 10 minutes because it would probably be really bad tea. |

Mark, this just tells me there is a lot of misinformation on tea out there. And I DO MEAN A LOT.
Tell me, do they give us any sources for their hypothesis? I've heard everything. Things such as, "white tea is low in caffeine." Yin Zhen is one of the highest caffeinated teas out there -- in my opinion.
I've also read, which is in contrast to the 10 minute steep... I've also read that the most if not all the antioxidants from the tea leaves come out in the first steep.....
You hear everything if you look hard enough.
And no, I don't buy their contention regarding a 10 minute steep is best for health. For all we know, almost all of the antioxidants may have been absorbed into the water after the 2nd steep.
It's so easy to say things without any sources!!!! |

You are better off brewing for about 45sec-1-1:30 at about 175 -180 degrees. If you wanted to get the most of your tea then you can rebrew the same tea that you had. I prefer Loose Leaf tea because it has most of the healthy benefits not found in bag tea.
Honestly, at that temperature, you would be burning the green tea leafs and getting a very nasty bitter taste in your tea. Not exactly my cup of tea!
I would advice that you not do this. Tea is more than just for getting health benefits from it. Its tasting and enjoying a naturally nutritious drink that can secondly provide very priceless health benefits!

Well, Green tea can only really, or rather should be brewed only about four times. But, when you brew every time after the first time you should let it brew for about 30 seconds more if you plan to get the same affect (not exactly) as the first time you brewed.
lol, some of you folks just like your tea brewed longer, to each his own. I like Oolang with Camomile and silverneedle, mixed with a little rooibos and I let it steep about 6 minutes. Then brew again for a deterred flavor (8 minutes). Plus I add honey.

Green teas can be or should be brewed only as many times as they bring satisfaction or enjoyment to the individual. There is no rule of thumb on this. I brew most of my Japanese teas 5 times, Kevin often brews only 2 times...who is right, who is wrong.
4 times...???
Chinese greens I usually brew 3 times...so, average that out and I guess I am right on your magic number of 4. |
