|
|
Hello everyone,
I'm very new to finer teas but one thing I don't understand right off. I've read that, due to the quality and the reduced processing, white tea is considered to be more healthful than green teas. But I've also read that powdered teas like Matcha are more healthful, basically because you are consuming the whole leaf. I understand there are many differences between teas that are "preference" based, but the health issues would seem to be more 'cut and dried'.
Thanks!!

I don't think it's so cut and dry at all. In the tea world, health information regarding tea can be hazy at best. You hear so many things.
My understanding is that it's questionable that matcha is more healthy than sencha simply because though you consume the entire leaf, does not mean the body is able to absorb all the benefits. |

Ryan has a couple of good points there, though I have to think that one gets a *bit* more out of matcha during digestion. At the very least, one would get a little fiber, right?
That said, I doubt there is much difference between the benefits of green and white tea. Whichever you like enough to drink often is going to affect your health the most (even so, don't expect a miracle). |

Interesting. That was actually my experience as well. I figured I was just looking in the wrong places

"All", perhaps. That makes sense to me. Or are you saying 'no more than standard brewing'??? I would expect there to be some differences....

You'd think at least that. With so many foods they are finding the more extracted something is, the less effective it is. I was just reading about colds and vitamin C. Seems like the impact of C pills is nil, but the effect of consuming C rich foods is quite pronounced. No idea whether this applies to teas or not.... but you'd think.

So far I like them about equally (though my first order from Kevin is just now on it's way - so that could change!). Right now I tend to change it up between white and green during the day. Probably 5-6 cups a day (I'm a big guy so a cup is 16 oz ) and a cup of Tazo Passion before bed. That stuff is delicious.

Really??? I was... Okay - I'm out..... NEXT! (jk)
Seriously - I'm not at the "miracle" stage. I'm making some basic lifestyle changes that - I hope - will head off some long term problems (diabetes, hyper tension, high cholesterol, arthritis.... maybe even cancer?) before they become "real" issues. Lost a few pounds. Increased fruits & veggies in the diet. Cardio and strength training 4-5 days a week. And now green and white teas.... Teas are easy additions because they are GOOD.
Thanks folks,
Nice community here.

I didn't mean any offense with the miracle thing– It's just that so many are looking for crazy solutions to obesity and whatnot, so it's a bit of a knee-jerk reaction. Welcome to the forum! |

None taken. I get that. Always good to set "realistic" expectations - IMO.
Thanks!
