| I don't know how this translates for those in other areas of the US, and it's likely a non-issue for those in other countries, but the Japanese film Kwaidan is being aired October 29th at 3:30 AM on TCM (Turner Classic Movies). It's a series of Japanese ghost stories. Very well done... |

| Kwaidan is a very good movie, I recommend. Kind of a Japanese "Twilight Zone" type of movie. |

Hi,
I have been ordering ocha ever since I left Japan in 2003 and just stumbled on this forum today. I really miss the exposure to Japanese movies and tv, especially the sumo and game shows. It's a rare event when something broadcasts over here in Japanese.
Anyway just thought I would say hello since I registered today. |

Hi sandi.
I find that Netflix, or something similar helps. Its how I get all my Japanese films and what not.

Since you seem to like niche movies, do you worry about having a copy of these movies in the future? I'm a big fan of 80's horror movies and a number of my favorites still aren't on dvd. As a result of this I buy/download every dvd I can get my hands on in case they aren't translated onto future formats. Netflix would be would be cheaper/easier, but I worry about the loss of a favorite movie down the road. "Pirates of the Carribean" will be available in every format for the next century, but when you like niche movies they have a tendency of disappearing. |

That's an interesting question. As I find movies I really like, I add them to my Amazon wish-list. I used to buy more DVD's before Netflix; since I started it though, there's was always something new to watch, so I haven't purchased nearly as much. But latey that's been changing. I've downgraded the number of movies I get each month from netflix and focused more on buying again.
Anyone interested in movies, particular niche films, I highly reccomend netflix or something like that. I have had wonderful access to Japanese films (not everything though--they still don't have Tampopo) that I woudln't have had otherwise. And not just older films, like the Kurasawa stuff, but much newer releases as well.
Incidentally, this has been very helpful in my attempts to learn Japanese. It increases my understanding of the prounounciation and context, I've learned new words, and it is very encouraging to see my understanding of the language progress. |

| I will have to visit their website again. I tried to use it when I lived in Japan but they would not ship overseas at that time. I do not really watch many movies or TV, we use TIVO now. It it saves so much wasted time and controls the sound level during commercials. But since we don't go to the theater, (sound is so lound it is painful) we sometimes watch a movie at home. A few months ago Amazon began offering movie downloads with TIVO but the downloaded movies expire in 24 hours. If I am going to pay for a movie I want more control over where, when and how often I watch it so Netfix sounds like a good option. |
