Do you read Japanese, or did you translate? This one has a photo sensor that turns the thing off if it gets dark and turns it back on when the lights come back on. That's pretty slick. |
No, I don't read Japanese but I read enough hanzi (kanji in Japanese) to be able to navigate the site. Now, that photo sensor thing is PRETTY slick. I checked out their Southeast Asia site and those models also only have 3 settings for temp and not 4 settings like some of the Japan model.
Man, we could sure use some more of those Japanese models in the U.S.! |

Things in Japan do tend to be more expensive, but for the model above, the cost is about US$ 198 which is not ridiculous considering that the hybrid vacuum and electric boiler available in the U.S. retails for US$ 184. Besides, the model above has several features that the U.S. model doesn't have:
1. it can be use unplugged--it has batteries to keep the water warm and to dispense water
2. it has a photo-electric cell to detect when light is on or off (for energy-saving purposes)
3. it has 4 temperature level settings
Man, if I could buy THAT model in the U.S., I would. I most want features listed in #3.
Oh...by the way, I broke down and bought myself the hybrid vacuum/electric boiler available in the U.S. |

If you do get the hybrid vacuum one, could you report back if it's made in Japan. Zojirushi's products sometimes are made in Thailand or China. The model I have at home is the CD-JSC30 which is made in Japan. My office one is made in China (ugh) :^) |
So I wrote to Zojirushi USA and they wrote back saying yes, the hybrid model is made in Japan. That's GREAT! While I assume the quality of their "Made in China" products would be just as good, somehow, I would have to say I'm a little prejudiced towards having my electronics made in Japan. Although my iPod is made in China and that seems fine. Still, if I had the option, I'd go for Made In Japan
Yeah...and I'm Chinese |

Cool, Maybe I'll have to ask for that in Aug. I'd probably go the $138 option instead of $185.
Let me know how it works when you get it. |

I got the ZojiRushi CV-DSC Vacuum-Electric Hybrid water boiler & warmer for my birthday. It works like a charm. I had hot water all day yesterday, and if you want to change temps, just change the temp up or down and in a little while you've got that temp of water.
It's also got the timer that will allow delayed operation of 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 hours. I think the 10 hour option will work for having hot water in the morning. Just fill the thing completely full and set it for 10 hours. It should make hot water about 15hrs later. The water does heat and cool much faster if you only add a little, like a liter or so.
Now I can easily drink tea while at work! |

| Great! I also find that one way to make the water temperature come down quickly is to leave the lid open. Because this is also a thermal flask, to get the water go from 212F to 175F takes a LONG time. But if I leave the lid open, it does drop to that temp soon enough. |

Yep, I set the timer to 10 hours and when I showed up this morning I had hot water. I had forgot to set the temp to 175 from the default 195, so I opened the lid and the temp dropped to 175.
This thing is awesome.
I also requested 4 canisters to bring the tea to work in, so I got 4 of the washi canisters from O-Cha.com. Woo Hoo.
