On another forum, chip and I went back and forth on the correct way to pronounce gyokuro. I looked up the hiragana for gyo, ku, and ro, and assumed away from there. I've been wrong plenty of times before, so what is the right way?

...ummm, I was not really disagreeing with you, Space, I was trying to convey how the 2 consonants g and y in succession create an unusual "non English" sound which is actually a little difficult to convey. I suppose if you ask 10 people to describe it upon hearing it uttered from the lips of a Japanese man or woman, you could get at least several interpretations.

I would be happy to provide a link for the site where I audibly heard it if you care to PM me.

I am certainly not a linguist nor do I claim to be.

Oh, I was just asking cos I thought I might be wrong, not to prove who was right.
