I bought a green tea from a local Asian market and I’m not sure what kind it is. It is priced like Sencha but it is not labeled as such. This store has a lot of teas from the same distributor. While the text on the original package is in Japanese, the distributor has put a sticker label on the package in English. Some of the teas are clearly labeled Sencha and this one is labeled “Yae Midori Cha.” (Does this just mean green tea?)
I am brewing this tea in the same manner that I brew Sencha. It doesn’t taste like Sencha. Rather, it tastes kind of like broth and the color of the brewed tea is yellow/green. I don’t like the flavor.
Does anyone have any ideas about what kind of tea this might be? I’m wondering if I’m brewing this tea incorrectly or if it’s just not a good tea.
