Hello All,
I'm hoping to find a cast iron hibachi that would have been used for heating water in cha-no-yu. I'm a complete beginner, but have attended a few ceremonies where such a device was in use.
Would this be called a tetsubin, or is there another word that would be more appropriate?
Also, please help with any recommendations as to a source.
Any help that you can provide will be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Amos,
...I saw this...I believe it is what you are talking about. They call it a brazier. It is designed for the tea ceremony. I am sure there are others. I have also seen heavy cast iron cauldrons hanging over heat used also.

A google search for cha-no-yu will turn up an astounding amount of info on the subject. |

Thanks, Chip. The link was very helpful, but I only love it a little. I've done some searching and have come up with alot of good information. Seems as though I'm looking for the mass produced variety from the early 1900s. Found several for sale in Japan, but the shipping is cost prohibitive. Found one in an "Art Studio" in San Francisco that was very pricy (could easily cover the shipping from Japan). I'm hopefull to find something in the US. I would also like to find a vertical kit box for storage and transport.
Thanks for any help.
Amos

| They have the real thing over here of course. They're pricey before shipping, let alone afterwards. |
