| I routinely rebrew my loose leaf teas; that way I can buy the best and pay far less than for the powder and fanning stuff. I cannot find any information on the difference in caffeine levels in the second and third brews. Commonsense says it should be less than for the first brew. Does anyone inthe forum have informaiton about this? Thanks |

If I really, really, really had to drink decaf tea, I would use this method. But I spoke to a caffeine sensitive tea drinker, and he still has a reaction to later infusions after tossing the first. He is extremely sensitive to caffeine. However tossing the first steep away, well, that would be a brutal choice to make.
But from what I have read, because caffeine is very water soluble, 80-90% of caffeine comes out of the leaf in the first minute or so. So, as long as I drink my first steep be 6-7 PM, I feel pretty safe about the caffeine...and then I have 2-4 steeps left for the evening. |
