| It will really depend on the material from which your tokoname is made. If it's something pourous, like Hagi, it will definitely stain... |

I bought one of the red teapots on sale here, so that was what I am using. First time I've heard about Hagi, is it typically used for green tea? |

| Yes it is. Hagi (actually, Hagi-yuki), a small town in Japan, is well-known for its pottery and teaware. If you Google "Hagi ware," you'll find some interesting results. I know of at least one or two vendors selling tokoname of Hagi; it is fairly inexpensive and developes lots of "character" with use... |

That is interesting. With character do you mean it affects taste or mainly appearance? If its permissible would you mind sharing the vendor's name? |

I was specifically thinking appearence, but assume such asborption qualities would, with time, effect taste as well. One specific vendor is http://www.wahooya.com/index.html
You might also want to read a brief statement at "Artistic Nippon" for what is says about ferric oxide (a component of clay found in some high quality teaware). I listed that website in an earlier post and don't want to over do it... |

Thanks, those are some nice teaware. Interesting bit about the ferric oxide. Wonder if the ferric oxide reacting with the tanin would also affect green tea's health benefits due to its high content of catechin tanins. |

| Good question - unfortunately, I have no answer. However, I assume the effect diminishes with continued use... |
