I love green tea. I have read many articles on green tea and the ability to fight and/or prevent cancer. Many articles say that it is possible, while others say it isn't. I am looking to find out the opinions of fellow green tea drinkers. So what do you think?? And does anyone have any personal stories or experiences that would help support one side or the other?? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't perused through the material which speaks of the potentials of green tea in this context. That being said, even without hard evidence I will give you my opinion.
Considering green tea is purported to boost the immune system I would say that it would be helpful if someone has cancer. In terms of prevention, I would think it also would be helpful.
And it relaxes the mind and spirit and taste great. |

Hi all, new to this Board. My partner was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma and we have been researching how we can improve diet to help him fight this, which led me to green tea and then to this board.
I came across a recently published book, "Foods that Fight Cancer" by Richard Beliveau and Denis Gingras, two Canadian biochemists. Apart from being a pleasure to read, it is easily understandable and based on solid scientific research (well it appears to be to this layman). It has a whole chapter devoted to the anti-cancer properties of Green Tea and especially advocates regular drinking of Japanese Green Tea (high grade Gyokuro and Sencha) - of all green teas the Japanese leaves apparently provide the highest levels of the anti-cancer agents that green tea contains.
So there appears to be growing scientific support to the idea that Green Tea should be part of a diet to both prevent and treat cancer.

| There are many, many studies in the USA, Japan, etc, which suggest green tea is beneficial for the immune system. From personal experience, I am convinced it helps fight colds and the flu. Despite all of these studies, there was one less than positive one put out awhile back by the FDA. It always appeared to me that the FDA caters to the big drug companies interests so I put little faith in their studies. |
