| How good is Genmaicha? What does it taste like? If I have been enjoying drinking the high quality senchas, would Genmaicha seem inferior? |

It tastes good, but it's not first harvest. The Genmaicha with Matcha is real good.

| How many infusions do you get with this tea? How many grams of tea do you use? |

| You only really get one good infusion I would say. It's got a completely different taste - it's quite good. It's good for beginners who aren't used to the astringency, but that doesn't mean you can't drink it. |

It is much like drinking rice krispies cereal but it is pleasant...however it is not like drinking a fine sencha.
It can play a role as casual full flavored beverage that is very indifferent to brewing parameters in that it is hard to mess it up...but it is not a true tea pure taste as I find the toasted rice dominates the flavor profile...for me anyway. It can compete with food so it is suitable with meals or after.
It is possible to get several steeps out of it, but the first is generally the best. I go through periods with this tea when I can drink it almost everday and then not crave it for months.
There are all different types of genmaicha...what is the difference. For the most part, I really do not know, but those blended with matcha at least offer more of a tea taste. |

I use around 4 grams per 200 ml water...brew for 1-2 minutes at 175-180*.
I have seen much variability in brewing temp recommendations for genmaicha ranging from 175-boiling. I have also seen recommendations to brew for 3 minutes, but when I tried this it came out a little strong for me and there was not much flavor left for another steep.
Like all Japanese tea, be prepared to experiment some to find your ideal cup. |

I LOVE the stuff- but I also dont consider it a true green tea. The taste is 100% different then straight green tea but it is truly incredible in its uniqueness It seems to have more "body" to it-and as another poster described kinda like rice krispys. That is the best way to describe the taste (first thing that came to my mind as well) even though its not really accurate. It kinda tastes like rice smells lol.
I usually drink this right before a meal and it seems to take the edge off of hunger so I dont over-eat. Its also great for when you are tempted to eat a late night snack- just enough substance without making you want to eat more?? I am trying to cut down on eating without a purpose (not really a diet per say) and for me green tea of any kind helps with that. |
