Hi all, just found this forum and have been reading some of the posts. As of last week I'm on a "spread the word" kick for Green Tea.
First off...I just started drinking green tea this past Nov. '05. I'm 30yo, active and with a family history of high cholesterol. I was very surprised however to find out last Nov. that I had mildly elevated Cholesterol levels. I always figured all foods in moderation and a good amount of exercise would keep everything in good standing, but I figured wrong.
Well, I knew about Green Tea benefits and immediately started brewing/drinking it and taking "fish pills"(omega 3's and all that.)
I hoped it would work...but secretly doubted its abilities. ( I'm a Registered Nurse and am always wary of herbal remedies...yet at the same time am a supporter of certain types. ie)gensing. Sort of a paradox for me.) Well 9months later and lo and behold, cholesterol is down, LDLs are down and HDLs are up!
I'm always reading about "health studies/experiments," but this time got to test something first-hand with concrete results. It wasn't a perfect control of variables but it was pretty close.
Just thought I'd share my positive experience with Green Tea. (I'm drinking Dragon Well...I know, its Chinese and this place seems to be focused on Japanese varieties. So if anyone knows about it, and it doesn't offend anyone...mind talking about it in the Chinese Tea sub-forum?)
Sorry 'bout all the babbling...just on an experimental high!

Hi
I just recently started drinking green tea. Too soon for me to tell the health results. Lately my blood pressure has been a bit too high. My doctor thinks I am drinking too much green tea and that the caffience is bothering me. However, I do not drink a ton of tea, and now only let it brew about 3 minutes. When I first started experimenting with brew times I let it go 30 to 60 minutes like I do with some herbal teas. WOW. That was indeed too strong for me.
What type of green tea do you usually drink?
I have Sencha, but have also tried other Japanese teas, which I do not consider to be in the Green tea classification.. These others include Kuki-Cha, Ban Cha, Hoji Cha, Genmaicha. |
