Green Tea w/ Matcha Tea Bags
Hi again,
I'm going to try the O-Cha green iced tea bags. Am I reading this right, you put a tea bag in a quart of water and just refrigerate? How long do you wait for it to brew in the fridge? If you want to make it hot then cool it, how long would you let it brew before pouring on ice? And what is this about bacteria? If I use O-Cha and brew it cold, is there a chance for bacteria? By brewing it cold, wouldn't the nutrients be preserved?
I have SO many questions! There should be an on-line course on this. Thank you in advance for all of your help/advice/experience.
I APPRECIATE IT!

| I can second a certain concern about all this talk on bacteria when brewing cold. Could someone clarify that? |

| cold brewing usually takes a few hours, i've never actually tried brewing cold and pouring over ice myself, and i've never experienced any problemswith bacteria, just make sure you use good tea |

When it comes to bacteria, if you buy from O-Cha or equally creditable places, you have nothing to worry about. I can't say for other types of green tea, but the concern with bacteria in Japanese green tea is rooted in the lower quality stuff. This isn't to discredit the lower quality teas though. When you brew them hot, the heat takes care of the bacteria.
Ok, now for brewing. With the tea bags, I can't really give you any water/tea ratios, because I have no clue about the bags, lol.
If you cold brew, leave it in the fridge for a few hours. To be honest, the shortest good cold brew I've done was 1 hour and the longest was like 6. There was little difference in the taste. As for hot brewing and pouring over ice, basically make the tea as you normally do, but use less water. (When the ice melts, it'll dilute the tea if you don't use less water). |

In an older post on this forum regarding brewing iced green tea with his tea bags, Kevin (the owner of this site) said:
"With the Green Tea S900 - Matcha-iri-Teabags, I put in one bag per quart I shake it up, put it in the fridge, and I leave the bags in the container, but you could take them out. When it gets down about 1/2 way, I refill it up once, and then I drink the rest over a period of a day or two."
I've followed these directions for the last month or so, using one bag for 32 ounces of tea per batch and the resulting tea tastes quite good!
I've left the tea bag in the container until it is empty without any bad effects.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Tea-Man |

| Pardon me for asking but molette is the word for slightly overweight people, or simply fat, nobody with a sound mind would actually name themseves molette unless trying to offend somebody, I am overweight but also see myself as a beautiful papi like Ricky, Enrique or Beckham, Toni Banderas ( I`m hot baby, muscular like mr the governor Arnie Schwarz... ) |

Wow, Oni!!
I've never heard that before. It's a female mole - you know like the little guys that dig up roots in the ground.
Thanks everyone for all of your input and help. I'm going to try the teabags from O-Cha and see how I do with that.
You guys are really nice and helpful. This is my first forum and I'm glad I joined. Thanks again for everything.
