Hi all,
I'm currently using a little teapot with a seperate mesh screen infuser that you dunk into the teapot and then pour water over. I just recently bought a little tokoname tea pot from O-Cha specifically designed for green tea. I was wondering if anybody could tell me how these teapots work? It doesn't seem like they have a removable infuser. How do you brew tea in these teapots? Do the tea leaves just go straight into the water and then get filtered out by a built in screen over the spout? I just want to know how to properly use my tokoname pot when it arrives in the mail! Thanks! |

Just like Space pointed out, the strainer is just before the spout inside.
I'm not sure if it needs to be explained, but since you've been using a removable strainer, you may have gotten used to making multiple cups and leaving the tea in the pot while you're drinking it. Since the leaves stay in the pot, you'll sort of "over-steep" your tea if you do the same. |

Thanks, this is what i figured
i was thinking that once i brew the tea in the tokoname pot, i would just pour the whole brew into a second teapot and then drink it from there. I drink out of little ceramic 4 ounce cups, so this is the only solution i can think of. Whats a faircup? |

I've heard this term only a few times, so it would be good if someone verified this, but I believe a faircup is sort of like a pitcher used to hold the tea after you pour it out from the teapot.
Essentially, its the same as your idea of pouring the tea into a second teapot after you brew it. |

You explained it well, okimasa. The name "faircup" is awkwardly translated, but basically it ensures that each person gets a consistent/fair brew (not too weak or strong, from getting either the beginning or end of the pour), so it makes sense. |
