| When in Japan recently I had to stop at the famous Tsuen tea shop in Uji. Being horribly inadequate at Japanese, I really didn't know what I was buying besides getting a bag of sencha and a bag of karigane. With the shincha craze calming down a little bit I decided to crack open the sencha for a Tuesday night of tea fun. I remember that the sencha was of mid- to high-price range as their senchas go but cannot read the bag to find out what kind it is. Its most definately an asamushi with a very subtle dry leaf aroma, a more yellow than green infusion, and a very distinctive fruity slightly floral taste which reminds me more of a light taiwanese oolong than my more deeply-steamed idea of a normal sencha. For an asamushicha it has a very lasting aftertaste which stays on the tongue as a pleasant reminder like a good fuka (or espresso). I might be able to take a picture of the bag but I was wondering if someone (like Kevan) might know what it was...Upon looking at the fairly minimal Tsuen website, I'm pretty sure its the Sencha Aoi. |
