I see today that Artistic Nippon has a glass tea bowl for sale, which is advertised as a Summer Chawan.
It's pricey, but it looks very beautiful, and it's big - almost 6" in diameter. Just thought it was curious, as I've never seen anything like this before. |

| That is gorgeous! I'm guessing the use of glass is more contemporary; do any of you more knowledgeable people know? |

Wow, pretty cool. I'd be down for some iced matcha in a chilled chawan.
Hah, and I know who bought it! Maybe I'll get him to post some shiny pictures of it in action. |

Yes, I wondered that too! It's quite shallow.
But I'd still like to see how some high quality matcha looks in it. |

I am fond of the summer (hira) chawan shape, it's serene.

I guess they are lower and wider to allow faster heat loss??? |

Not me! Summer must have come to some other part of the world before it's landed here... |

Where did you find this one? The glaze is almost identical to one of my raku. |

vessels.jp on Trocadero. There are several high-res closeups.
It is supposedly a work of Raku "Kakunyu (1918-1980), the 14th descendant of the Raku lineage of Kyoto potters," and contains an "attestation by Tantansai, the 14th Urasenke tea master. "
I have seen similar glaze a few items, inlcuding this one. |
