What shincha's y'all getting this season?

Well, after much time spent in the forest... I have decided on two selections:

Kirameki and Hatsumi...

The rational is as follows. For starters, the packaging of Kirameki is so spectacular I have to buy it. Secondly, I like the way the dry leaf looks quite a bit, and it's an interesting shincha version of cha.

Hatsumi, because it actually tastes very distinct to its non-shincha cousin. The flavor profile may be basically the same, but the strength of the shincha version is quite noticeable.

The only two other shincha's I've had in the past from o-cha is Miyabi and Yutaka Midori. They may have been a touch fresher tasting, but I didn't notice any significant difference. Either way, shincha is always special because it is cha from Japan at its most pristine and fresh state possible.

And so, I ask you, what will be in your cup this shincha season?

1. Uji Shincha Kirameki
2. Uji Shincha Kirameki
3. Uji Shincha Kirameki

I bought this last year, along with the Midori. I had just started drinking high quality sencha and had just found O-Cha.com. I thought they were both great, but when I went to reorder them the Kirameki was out of stock, never to be seen again until now. I had actually planned on asking Kevin if he would have the Kirameki again this year but before I had a chance it was added to the shincha list.

I ordered three 100 gram packages of the Kirameki yesterday and will get the Midori when it is available. The Kirameki appears to be ready to ship, as it was shown as a sale, not a preorder.

I will probably try the Hatsumi as well, as I've never had it in any form.

I wasn't as impressed with the 2007 Miyabi and Fukamashi as I was with the other senchas, but I didn't try them until early 2008. I guess I'll probably try the shincha versions of them as well, just to be fair.

I guess that's it!

The kirameki does look pretty amazing. I unfortunatly have more Japanese tea than I know what to do with right now and my fair share of other teas so I'm really trying to cut back until i get down to drinking the majority of it. This is my first shincha season however and I had to at least get my feet wet, I just got some Yutaka Midori...never had it before.

I had to raise the price on the Kirameki this year, but a few of you slipped in and purchased it just before I did so, lol. That is one fine hand picked Uji green tea!

Except for that particular item, all the prices remain the same - despite the fact that the US dollar is becoming more worthless by the day. The Europeans are making out pretty well right now, however.

I ordered some Yukata Midori again this year, but I'm considering the Kirameki as well. Any chance I could tack on some Kirameki to my existing order, so as to not pay double shipping?

So, is Britt's observation right, the Kirameki is available now? Is that possible??? shock

I hope to try them all this year. A worthy goal I would say!!! When I was doing my TeaBudget, I forgot all about the Kirameki. The Kirakeki is a must since it is only available for a limited time.

Yep, 100 grams. A very fine green tea if there ever was one.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Midori. I drink this one regularly throughout the year and this is my favorite one that is readily available. I do find that cooler water gives better results.

Apparently not. I checked again this morning and it now shows as a preorder, along with a higher price. Still worth it in my opinion.

That's your punishment for showing it as available now instead of as a preorder! Apparently we were purchasing it as you were posting it?

Seriously, I have no problem if you add the difference to my credit card total for the three packages I ordered. This one is well worth either price.

I haven't had the Kirameki, would you say it is chumushi or asamushi? I prefer sencha to be fairly well-steamed.

Hmm, so which shincha am I ordering? Fukamushi Supreme is first on my list! I'll probably get Miyabi and Hatsumi too... maybe more. I'm tempted to order multiple packages of Fukamushi Supreme. Cool
