And--drum roll, please--here in Scotland also: my (separate) orders of the Kirameki and the Hatsumi both arrived today. The Fukamushi is, I believe, en route as I type...
Unfortunately, owing to some rather poor planning on my part this evening, I've had no time to have a session with either.
Tomorrow night, I have BIG (shincha) plans...
[By the way, I got a rather fetching little green leaf spoon thingy with my Hatsumi. And the Kirameki came in a colourful package, in a purple card box. Is that the packaging people have been mentioning, or did I get the 'regular' packaging...?] |

| The Yutaka Midori came in a few days ago, so if you had that in your order (and no miyabi) then it was shipped 2 days ago. The only thing we are now waiting on is miyabi and also kabusecha. |

The packaging is on page 4 of this thread...I got the good one.
It is ashame the chat time is so late here, it would be cool to have a pot of shincha at the time. |

| Horrah! I'm excited for my first shincha. And I managed to save some of the normal yutaka for comparison purposes. |

Thanks for pointing me to the picture of the package, Chip; it seems I did get the good one after all! Very nice indeed.
I managed to have a session with the Kirameki this evening, which was rather wonderful and gave at least 5 decent offerings (and could probably have given more, had I not decided it was time for bed - which it really is now!). Anyway, for what they're worth, I've posted some lengthy ramblings on my blog. I'd be interested to hear what everyone else thinks of the Kirameki.
And yes I'd really like to set up a chat too about the various Shincha we've all ordered, but the timing is slightly problematic. Maybe this coming weekend, if we can co-ordinate. We're in British Summer Time at the moment, so GMT+1 I think... |

I am still waiting for my shincha and got a question.
I ordered shincha that was all available for shipping about a week go. The next day I got an email saying that my order is complete. But this order does not show up on my order history list. What does it mean? Should I worry? |

| Kevin, I've sent you an email with the order number yesterday. Perhaps you haven't seen it yet. I will send a PM in a minute. |

I've a query about the amount of leaf to use when brewing Shincha which I hope someone can help with.
A commentator on my blog has said that "[i]n Japan, a shincha is typically brewed with double the amount of tea", i.e. where I'd used 4g for my 200ml of water, I should have used 8g. I certainly followed Kevin's recommendation to brew for a shorter duration (1.5 minutes) and at a lower temperature but hadn't appreciated that the weight should also be altered.
Would that comment about leaf to water ratio be right? Obviously, I appreciate that brewing parameters are entirely subjective and personal, but I'd be curious to know if this is indeed how it would normally be done with Shincha.
As a first flush newbie, all assistance would be welcomed! |

| I disagree with your poster, I don't know where they get that figure. 200ml is 6.7 ounces. They're suggesting you use 8 grams per 6.7 ounces? No, I don't thinks so. In fact, using 4 grams is quite a bit, perhaps over. Plus, their brew time is kind of short. I agree with the temperature they suggest, however. |

Thanks Kevin - that's helpful. I thought 8 grams sounded a lot to use. I'll increase the temperature a bit and use slightly less leaf for my next session.
Still, even using the parameters I did, it tasted rather good! |

It's been tough...
The Great Shincha crisis of 08 has finally come to an end. I want to give my thanks, to all of you who supported me through this rough time. Thankfully, the ending is a happy one.
I received my shincha today. I was wondering WHERE IT WAS. Took a bit longer than usual.
And, Kevin was very cooperative during this debacle. He realized just how enormous the scare was. But, we pulled through.
Thanks all... You can all now rest easy. Wipe those tears away you guys!!!! My tea finally came :] It's going to be a bright, bright, bright, sun shiny day......... |

Glad you came through it in one piece, Ryan. Some of us were worried...
