Ask your doctor.
I drink many liters of green tea every day, and I'm still kicking. |

Happiness, longevity, and good taste...
Caffeine "overdose" is possible at high levels, but I would not worry about this too much from tea. I am no scientist, but from what I have read, benefits from drinking tea far far outweigh any potential hazards. See the following:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffeine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potential_effects_of_tea_on_health
That said, certain people are more sensitive to caffeine than are others. If you find that drinking lots of tea gives you any side effects, you can reduce your caffeine intake sharply, by brewing the same green tea leaf 2 or 3 times, if you are not doing so already.
Most of the caffeine content of tea will brew out to the liquor in the first minute or so, thusly, the second and third brews will have far lower caffeine content. There is probably more information about how to brew green tea in the "brewing green tea" section of this forum.... |

Better make that 4-5 times. |

Only side effects I can imagine are problems sleeping due to heavy intake right before you go to bed, but this only goes for caffeine heavy black teas for my at least.
Other than that I doubt there are any bad side effects. The vitamins in green tea are water soluble so if you drink obscene amounts it will get flushed out your body.
And as Joelsbct said, you get a bad case of happiness and good taste |

The only notable side effect for me is hanging out on tea forums too much and too late at night and generally talking too much about tea. That and getting very excited about tea!!! |

The side affects are:
Too much time and money spent looking for the perfect tea.
Too much time spent looking for the perfect brewing method.
Too much money spent purchasing more teapots than any reasonable person could possibly use.
Clearing out shelves of useless items like plates, bowls, and food so you can fit in more kyusu and Yixings.
I've recently read an article that claims some serious Yixing collectors in Taiwan have actually sold their houses to purchase rare Yixings made by Master Craftsmen.
Although the listed side affects can be true for those who really get into tea, the benefits seem to far outweigh the side affects as long as the tea you drink is is free of chemicals, pesticides, glutens etc. About 99% of the tea I drink is from Japan and Taiwan and I have not had any problems or read of any with these teas. On occasion, I'll very selectively drink tea from India and China but their safety records aren't so great.
I think that people who drink a lot of water will generally benefit by putting tea in it. |

This thread is locked pending review by administration. I see no constructive reason to continue this discussion as it is unfortunately not solving anything.
Interestingly, many of the people of this forum share in the concerns of Chinese imports in general. |

Chip, good job on locking this thread...
FYI, I just finished killing about 6 or 7 off topic posts.
Off topic means discussing something that has nothing whatsoever to do with the topic at hand. Likewise, responding to something off topic is also worthy of being cut because it just keeps alive the original off topic response.
The topic here is "What Are The Side Effects Of Green Tea?", not you think about each other's collection, or another member for that matter. Space, no problem with starting a new post on your teaware collection, I enjoyed seeing that. That topic should be discussed there from now on, not here.
It is not a democracy here - I own the forum, those are my rules. I hope no one takes offense. I actually value the opinions of everyone who was involved and can see both sides of it, everyone involved is a valued customer. I have experience in other forums with this kind of thing getting out of control so I won't let it happen here. We will just kill these kinds of posts if need be. |
