I must agree that green tea does help aid in weight loss. In January of this year, I weighed an all time high 225. Soon after, I read about the health benefits of green tea and started drinking several cups of day in place of coffee. With exercise, and minor diet changes (no diet but whole grains, and very little sugar, etc.) I started losing about 2 lbs a week for a total of 50 lbs by mid summer. One month after I started drinking green tea my cholesterol dropped from 192 to 135 total w/ a large decrease in my LDL and increase if HDL. My BP also dropped from 135/88 to 115/60. I have not been in this good of shape in over 10 years and I preach the health benefits of green tea. Its funny watching my friends who laughed at me when I started drinking green tea switching to it now.

I do have a question. I am not always able to drink green tea and take an extract supplement, so is there a good/ quality extract out there?

The health benefits only seem to happen if your life before tea was poor. I drink green tea by the quart - sometimes a gallon a day - and adding in eating right and exercising a half hour a day....i haven't lost any weight.

If you take a look at our site, you will notice that, in contrast to most other green tea websites, we make no claims that green tea will help with weight loss. The reason is because I never could find a good study that showed it to be the case. Most of the studies and information on the health benefits of green tea on this site came as a result of my actually going to the university and researching. When you are talking about cancer, there are loads of studies from a large variety of institutions, all highly suggestive of green tea being beneficial as a preventative. Not so with weight loss. I've seen one or two questionable studies and wasn't too impressed.

There is a slight effect from the caffeine, known as "thermogenesis", but you would get that with any similar tea with caffeine, and even from coffee.

Since so many companies are hyping this, it's actually been a real pain to deal with it. There is one company out there that is particularly aggressive, pushing green tea patches and mis-quoting Dr. Perone when he was on Oprah. I get emails as a result and often when I don't tell writer what they want to hear, they get mad, heh.

I think (of course!) green tea is great and it seems to compliment any diet. I'm thoroughly convinced it will stop a cold or flu if you drink it heavy in the early stages. That said, our policy here is to not sell it based on it's weight loss abilities until we see one or two convincing studies from a reputable research organization.

I base that more on my personal experience than anything. For example, a few weeks back I was in the car with a friend that was sick with a bad cold. She was wheezing, coughing, etc. I was really mad because she wasn't wearing a mask or anything. There was no way I could not have been exposed to it. Anyway, about 24 hours later I could feel it coming on so I went extra heavy on it. Totally went away. I've done this many times - I'm convinced it works good for that if you catch it right at the beginning. Specifically, I like kabusecha for this. At the same time - I can't say it's caused me to lose weight.

That said, there are studies on that, I can dig them out when I get back to my office in about 2 weeks...

Why do you like Kabusecha specifically for accomplishing the goal of deterring a cold when you feel it coming on in its early stages?

Because the first time I noticed this effect, that's what I was drinking. I was getting real sick, sore throat, etc. Drank it real heavy and woke up the next morning - gone! I'm sure the other's are about the same.

When you say you drink it heavy do you mean you are upping the leaf per ounce amount or that you are simply drinking more tea with the standard 5 grams per 8 ounces?

Hi,

Been flat on my back with food poisoning, yikes! Glad that's over...

Uh, I just drink a lot more of it, don't make it more concentrated.

Hmm fat is replaced by muscle perhaps? Muscle tissue is heaver than fat tissue. But use green tea as a supplement. Don't expect it to be too miraculous.

Personally I think that one of the reasons green tea might be related to weight loss it that preparing and drinking hot green tea means that you are less likely to snack on other foods. Since as green tea has no calories, (or whatever it is that not suppose to be good), weight loss could easily result- not from the green tea as such, but from the change in diet, i.e. tea replacing snack foods

This is true.

Actually, I've noticed the cold thing aswell.
I could feel a cold comming on when I first started drinking it, but the next morning my nose was clear and I was happy to be the only person in my lecture not sniffing/sneezing. It has also worked great for my sore throat.
