| When I lived in Korea in 1971-2, it to me seemed that everyone ate white rice. During a recent visit to mainland China, the same was true. I'm wondering if the consumption of white rice has long been the tradition in Asia or if brown rice was ever the norm. Can anyone out there help me with this? |

| In Japan, nearly all rice served is short grained white rice. While I don't eat much due to it's high calorie content, it's served with most meals. |

Brown rice tastes fine, but white rice simply tastes superior. Alas, brown rice has superior health qualities
I remember reading something about how brown rice used to be the rice that was consumed in Japan or China, can't recall. I'll have to look that up. |
