Just curious - how did you become interested in green tea?
Myself - I've been in and out of Japan for 20 years. At first, it really was not a big deal, I think it's one of those things that grow on you In my case, this was way before anyone ever thought it was good for you. |

I started to drink a lot of tea in school. I noticed that I preformed better on tests after drinking tea. There was something I liked about tea, but I never really understood it. I tried EVERY tea available in my local area, trying to find the best. Just this year, I've discovered green tea on the internet and I've ordered a few times. Good quality green tea is a TOTALLY different experience
Now I'm drinking a lot because it tastes so good, it's good for me, I like to brew it, it makes me feel more focused and several other reasons.
There's something about good tea that leads me to belive that it's one of the finer experiences of life.

I strangely enough was led to green tea by a writer named J.S. Le Fanu. He wrote gothic horror stories in the late 1880's. One particular story he wrote was entitled aptly: Green Tea.
A creepy story about a man slowly driven insane by a demonic entity. I highly recommend the story. But I asked myself, at the time, what the heck is green tea. This led me to seek this "strange" kind of tea; and where I could purchase it. Did the research and bought my first few ounces at a health food store. Awful.
But I kept feeling the direction of the Holy Spirit of the TRIUNE AND LIVING GOD that this was something HE wanted me to drink. Eventually, I was led to japanese green tea. I still almost gave up; but through the insistence of the HOLY SPIRIT I kept at it; and finally discovered the wonder that is tea. A true gift from the LIVING GOD. One of those earthly gifts I shall always be Grateful for. Not only for its health giving properties; but also for its delicious taste, aroma and colour. |

I have always appreciated tea. When I went to Asian restaurants when I was younger I would always drink a lot of the tea that was provided. I appreciated the taste and warmth of this beverage. I felt it had calming and relaxing qualities.
I used to drink tea bags here and there. Then in college I found a website online and ordered some tea and a teapot. I wanted to finally get into the mysterious loose leaf. My first loose leaf tea was green tea from India. Was pretty good actually. I'm not sure why I chose green tea... Perhaps because it is "exotic" and acclaimed for its health benefits.
Now green tea and tea in general is simply my beverage of choice. Tea is my morning beverage. I generally drink tea one to four times a day depending on the day. Sencha is my favorite tea.

I have always liked tea of one sort or another as far back as I can remember. At about the age of 8, I discovered various black teas, and especially enjoyed Earl Gray. I pretty much stuck to black teas until the end of high school/beginning of college, when I started drinking ceylon tea.
It was all downhill from there.
My long-standing interest in Japan and Japanese culture makes me wonder why I didn't get into green tea earlier, but oh well. Since my freshman year of college about 5 years ago, though, I have had an ever-present and ever-growing interest in and love of green tea. I love the taste, love the ritual of it, find that it helps me get on with my work, etc.
To give you an idea of how into it I am, I'm currently trying to figure out how to do a photo documentary on something tea related! (Suggestions welcome!) I just love tea so much! |

I have also found the same thing to be true. Every morning, aside from the tea I drink at breakfast, I brew 32 oz of tea and take it to work with me in a thermos. I swear my work is worse without the tea! |

I was never much of a tea drinker - now I am!!
I started drinking green tea due to my caffeine addiction. I used to get my caffeine from coffee but I did not enjoy drinking the coffee. Then, I dated a green tea drinker and I was hooked from day one (to the tea and the girl) |

I never liked coffe. Neither did I like to drink Fruit tea when i was sick. Then we got a Tea house in our town and our 'gang' became decor there. We're always there. I became interested in the green tea after I read a book about how it should be prepaired to get the ful arome and the taste of it. That addicted me to the fullest. I'm still a beginer thou. I haven't drank that many kinds yet. |

| I started drinking it about a year ago, I came across it at a local grocery store, but i wondered why it was producing a brownish color and i began to look for high quality green teas and foudn myself on o-cha, and am now 100% hooked for life. I usually start off with 1-2 cups when I wake up and about 2-3 more by the end of the night. Lately i've been having drinking a cup of organic matcha-kaoru supreme, and then a cup of white tea-silver needle(just ordered a few bags the other week, and it is different but very good, i def. recommend it) in the morning, than a few more cups of each into the evening. I also find that I am more focused in everything I do, and I swear by it's health benefits. |

I have drunk tea since I was a young child, but only in its dust/fannings black tea in tea bags corruption!
When I moved out of home to another city to study at university I began buying different teas from the local gourmet store, although still only black tea at this stage - but at least loose leaf tea...
A couple years later I encountered the onyl speciality tea shop in the city (Hobart, Tasmania, Australia) and began reading/researching the world of tea in some depth. This led me to try a range of tea types, including oolong, white and green teas.
Over the last year in particular I have been increasingly favouring green teas. They possess a clarity and maintain that original tea leaf quality that is lacking in many other teas. I do, however, continue to enjoy good quality black teas (such as a fine Yunnan) or a decent oolong (such as from the Qizhong region).
I recently bought an imperial sencha from my local tea merchant and it is fantastic! Deep green colour and that amazing, fresh grassy flavour.
Anyway, that's my brief account of my discovery of green tea. |

It was about 3 or 4 years ago the first time I've tried green tea. It was in a tea bag (from an incredibly cheap brand), and I used boiling water for 3.5 minutes. =O
Wow, that was disgusting, to say the least. I stayed away from all 'oriental' things, cursing any kind of infusion besides my precious Mate (Erva Mate, a native herb used in many kinds of infusions around here), until, about an year ago, a friend of mine insisted that I brewed it incorrectly.
I tried her green tea, and actually liked it. From that day, I bought and tried every kind of green tea available, from China, Japan and from here, Brazil.
I elected my favorite, a local green tea called 'Yamamotoyama', but was not really impressed, and started moving to Oolong, which was more easily found (It seems that some restaurant owners have some kind of obsession with this tea), until, god knows why, I went here, and ordered that 'green tea of the month' service.
The genmaicha was what I expected, but the Asa-Giri... Wow, now I know what a real green tea tastes like. I'm surprised that none of the teas I've tried before, even those from Japan, taste like this.
Local green teas still have their value, but none of them have a grassy taste, nor a color so green.

I have work with a man from Japan now for about a year, he was drinking it the very first day he started, I asked about it, he brought me some and I tried it, he blended it himself some kind of Sencha and some other tea from Uji, I loved it from the first taste!
Since then I have been reading about it and buying different kinds just trying all I can get my hands on, I like it first thing in the morning then just after lunch!
Sometimes the bags come in handy, but I sure like the losse leafs also.
