ok Ive been into coffee for a long time but I never liked green tea probably because all I had was the stuff in US supermarkets. I'm living in Japan now and haven't noticed any particularly good tea here either until today when I was at the grocery store and thought why not try some green tea, though I was surprised at how expensive it is, I just grabbed this cause it was on sale for like 700 yen I think. I just poured 80 degree water over the leaves into my cup but the flavor/aroma was amazing, its hard to describe but it was thick and rich compared to everything else I've had which is only what they give you for free at sushi restaurants and tastes like sour hot water( I guess the tea equivalent of amerika kohi). Anyway my Japanese reading isn't particularly strong so but I bet someone on here can tell me what kind this is. Thank you!

That is "Shizuoka cha", of which there must be 1000 varieties. I can't see the company name because of the shine.
You are right, it's not even that easy to find a good green tea in Japan, at least at the supermarket. Beats the stuff they have in the US supermarkets though. |

| It's pretty packaging. I must say, I always enjoy the creative designs and art work that is common on Japanese tea packaging. |

| Ok. Thanks. I noticed on the back it says sencha (煎茶) and I think the company might be Ikeda. Its really had to photograph that gold packaging, it just seems to reflect all nearby light. |

About the only thing you know here is that it's sencha and that it's from Shizuoka. The bulk of all Japanese green tea comes from Shizuoka, and most of that is sencha. You don't know which harvest, etc.
I guess the important thing is that you found something you like it and found it for a good price. |
